Event Scrapbook

(Victoria Day Weekend)

I was the Canadian Guest of Honour for Canvention, the Prix Aurora Awards National Convention. This was my first convention in my father’s home town! (We hadn't been back for far too long.) Sheila Gilbert was Editor GOH for KeyCon. Our first time co-guesting was as fun as I'd hoped!

Sheila and I waited to be introduced in striking company.

After the GOHs were introduced, we were given aprons and a tub of ice cream to serve. What a wonderful way to "break the ice" with con attendees! Beside me is Media GOH Andee Frizzell who, may I say, had doled out her tub of chocolate before the rest of us were halfway!

I had the privilege of interviewing my editor and publisher, Sheila Gilbert of DAW Books, for her GOH presentation. Sheila's a dear friend and I was proud to share her,
especially when it's a rare thing indeed to pry Sheila from her work.

Nalo Hopkinson - always a joy. We did quite a bit of giggling. And the dancing?

Liana K. shared the role of Masquerade Host with me. During our discussion of what to wear, I mentioned sparkly, she mentioned fuzzy, and the rest, as they say, is history. My Next Generation costume was handmade by a family member of vast talent. Yes, this marks the first time I've stood on stage in a costume. ::looks around and whispers:: Such fun!!!

The sparkling Liana K. as she is in real life. If you get a chance to hear her speak on
Safe Status online, do! An eyeopener and important.

The lucky bidder at the KeyCon auction, soon to be a Trade Pact Enforcer!

KeyCon and Canvention were fantastic events. My sincere thanks to all the organizers and volunteers who made it look easy and provided such a wealth of things to do and enjoy.

I must also compliment those who attended the convention. What a talented, interesting, and exceptionally warm group you are!

There's only one thing ... I've developed a tendency to make pretend horns and chant: "Moo, moo... I'm a happy cow!"

Love you guys!
