Cortez from Shirley Leishman Books provided a wonderful display and great company. Leishman's intends to promote speculative fiction in Ottawa from now on -- please support this store! (They have a very large stock of signed Czernedas, btw.)

Friday night began with the Chocolate Social, hosted by Niall MacConnaill. There were chocolates made of the oddest combinations. Earl Grey Tea. Seaweed. Hot Peppers. Mead. Goat Cheese. You name it. And they were AMAZING!!! Niall knows. (He also has the quickest chocolate recovering tongue in the world. Even on high speed, couldn't catch him "cleaning up.")

Comic GOH Mark Oakley signing a copy of his Thieves & Kings graphics novel for us. A thoroughly delightful person, who knows the comic book industry. Oh, the great stories! If you get a chance to meet him, do!

The Iron Artist Competition Begins, ably hosted by PixyVixy, with accompanyment by Toolfox.
With trash talk from Iron Artist SciFi. (They suggested I might want to "ham it up." Yes, you can all chuckle at giving me such advice.)

Bring it ON!

Time for trash talk by Iron Artist Horror!! (Queenie Tirone) I know, I'm not supposed to giggle, but she's such fun and I was so doomed.!

Sure, be confident. Finish first. Use extra paper. Be cute ... SciFi Will Prevail!!!! (Dave said so.)

"Menu Malfunction" by Julie E. Czerneda
Thematic source: a certain restaurant on Plexis, a party reservation tucked into a recipe book by mistake, and you can guess the rest.

YES!!!!! MY FIRST ART SALE!!!!!
(Note the stunning medallion for winning the Iron Artist!)
Kelly, standing beside me, won the bidding scuffle. Despite rumour, my tossing in a character part
in my next novel had no impact at all. The woman knows her art! I've a new career ...

The real thing. Artist Guest of Honour! This would be Melita Curphy, in her *first* full major costume. That's individually attached horse hair for the mane. The woman has serious talent and is simply charming. We're hoping to have time to chat at Armadillocon.

No matter where I go ...
This tasty surprise arrived courtesy of newsgroup friends Bobbie (BS) and Sandra.
(Instigated, I believe, by someone to the southwest ...)
