Opening Ceremonies. Welcome to Armadillocon 28! The Guests of Honour applaud the concom!
Fan GOH Grant Kruger and Editor GOH Diana Gill. Yes, they were as much fun as they look.
Me, Enjoying.
And what was I enjoying? The warm, friendly crowd! (Most are staring at DEATH, btw, who was charming.)
Esther couldn't make it, but the role of Toastmaster was ably handled by Mark Finn.

During the Late Night World-building panel, Elizabeth Moon and I relied heavily on DEATH to even the odds.

The delightful Carol Berg. Again with the reading I can't attend! It's a conspiracy, I say!
The convention hotel was rough. Between the tiny lizards, the beautiful gardens and stonework, the pools and fountains ... we suffered.
Friends meet! Linda and her charming Steve. Note the book!

Fannish Feud about to begin, hosted by Chair Kimm Antell.

We Pros knew we were in trouble when, at the first question, James asked what we were doing, Diana and I had no idea, and poor John Picacio, who actually did know and was good at the game, gave a great sigh. (He did a wonderful job of on-the-fly coaching which didn't really help but we managed some points - usually when it was his turn.)
The Fans, however, were confident. First, the martinis...
There was a long pause when the Pros noticed the martinis at the other end of the table. Kimm made sure we got back to work. It was about now that we attempted to pull ahead by naming characters from "Lost," only to discover that even if the show had aired in Ireland, James didn't have a television. Time to start cheating -- with audience approval, of course. I will say we never did figure out what we were doing, but we had a good time trying.
A few more martinis, some lucky guesses, John's knowledge, and the Pros, in a move beyond belief, managed to pull ahead! Strangely, the Fans didn't appear to care. (That's Renee Babcock, Hostess with the Mostess.)
There's always time for wildlife. Walking through the courtyard was a treat. This little fellow is an Anole.
Yes. They took us to see the Bats!!! (A clandestine move involving sneaking out Saturday evening, lightning sushi, a convoy of cars on a convoluted route, and perfect bat-timing.)
I was transfixed, much to the delight of our hosts.
The autograph session. That's Diana Gill to my right, doing the word search in my Science News for Kids flyer. Beside her is the charming Elizabeth Moon; beside me, Bradley Denton.
Look at all the wonderful people at my reading!
The delightful Melissa Tyler who, between ride-alongs, organized the fabulous Writer's Workshop.
The Amazing Turtles that we saw at "The County Line BAR-B-Q"
The food was outstanding there too!!!!!!!

Our last two days in Texas were spent in San Antonio, mostly in the Riverwalk. You can see why.

Proof! Not only was Roger with me ... but Canadians don't melt!!! (It was 41C at street level. We were moving slowly, believe me.)
Our thanks to all y'all at Armadillocon 28. We had a wonderful, memorable time.
